5 Ways to Stop your Kids from Listening to Swearing Music and Using Bad Words

Raising kids is a bit complicated but it does come with much joy and peace. Knowing what they love and how they often get emotional, how they forget and even forgive makes us retrospect on our own growing up.

As we know, music with profanity did not just start today with the likes of RAP and other Genres of music we now listen to. It is challenging in today’s world of digital everything. Kids are wonderful and if you listen to them you can know a lot more about them and how much of a quick learner they are.

Songs with swear words should be edited for public consumption. Kids can pick up on any random word on a song in five minutes, and the next thing you know they are humming/later singing that particular song. How do I know this, my daughter who is now eight-year-old has been doing this for a while since she was like 5 years old.

Of course, stopping these songs from being played in our communities is also a bit challenging and very hard to do. We understand music is a therapy and should be able to heal or counsel a person’s soul. Not the other way around.

But what if they are polluting the minds of our children, what can we do? How can we limit this?

Who wants to hear their kid’s swearing or singing swear words of a widely played song? It’s normal for kids to swear because no matter what, they would hear it from their peers. What matters most is our reaction and how we can limit this information.

Let’s take a look at five key ways we can stop or limit the intake of swearing music and the use of bad words by our kids.

  1. Ignore them:
Let it go. Ignore them or give them little attention or response. Most of the time you can just act as if you never heard them. But if this is done on purpose or more than once, you need to correct them and let them know the implications and why we should not use these words.

2. Limit the Type of Music they Listen to

Checking on your kids, As parents, we sometimes forget about this duty while being busy with our day-to-day activities. What our children do or don’t do on a regular basis some of us don’t care.

There is a need for us to check up on what they listen to or watch. Explain to them what explicit music is so they know exactly what it is that you don’t want them listening to. Especially for those kids that have access to the internet and smart devices.

3. Watch the company they keep

Oh yes, the company your child keeps matters a lot and if you are not monitoring them you should.

It is healthy for your child to have acquaintances or friends that are not bad influences on them. Once you start to notice strange behaviors or the use of bad words you know they are not hearing it from you. It is a no-no with that friend or friends. We should be mindful as parents of the company our children keep.

4. If they refuse to heed try again:

Your kid may be trying out new words mainly for a toddler or maybe trying to seek attention. Kids sure do have their ways with this. And you should not give up but try as much to correct them again.

The cooperation to listen is very important and will lead to a great result.

5. Let them know that there would be punishment for disobedience

Explain to them that there would be consequences for disobedience. Eg; there will be no internet on their devices, No TV for them over the weekend, and the list goes on.

Once you know what punishment works better because you as the parent know their likes and dislikes, you can better enforce it. Help your child/children be or do better as they grow up.
