Rap has been part of the Liberian community for quite some time now. This category of music has been getting the attention it deserved for a few years now.
Although there may be some good rap music out here by top rappers in the country. It’s a fact that Liberian “Hip-Hop/Hipco” and Trap music are growing gradually as it is been widely sought after and spread throughout the country.
Bringing back such initiative to re-awaken this genre of music is a blessing for many young talents out here showcasing what they have to offer despite our economic challenges.
At the same time, it has been observed that not only Liberian rappers are changing their style from Rap to other genres, but other African artists are doing the same switching roles to Afro-Beat’s style of music, which is seeing tremendous growth also.
While others are changing their style of music in Liberia, few dare not to let this be their fate.
Rappers like, (Co.Z) are instead changing the narrative in the streets, and communities in Montserrado County. Bringing this big RAP Battle to the youth. Titled “Bars Over Bars”.
Rap battles like this often have goals to assist the younger and upcoming rappers. Encouraging them to keep pressing and pushing their dreams, serving as a motivation and True Art as it has been over the years.
Since early September this year, the process has been on, and participants needed to only drop their lyrics on the founder of Bars/Bars rapper CO.Z’s timeline as one of the qualifications to join the battle.
After several weeks of battles, you can see their finalist below who passed the final auditions and is headed to the Bars Over Bars Rap Battle main Event at Twisters this December.
Every rap tournament has a prize attached that would not only motivate the winner but also serve as a stepping stool to release their first record, start a career or bring a new breed of Hip-hop/Hipco rappers up.
The grand prize is Liberian dollars 214,500 which is equivalent to USD $ 1,395.28 as can be seen on the flyer above.
